Varunak
Fury of the Sky

Ascended: The First Age
Status: Alive, Actively Worshipped
Gryphon god of storms, weather, wind, destruction, rain. Frequently revered by sailors and beseeched by farmers and others who rely on the weather. May or may not have beef with Erefon.
Symbols
Varunak's holy symbol is an eagle talon clutching a lightning bolt.1) He is associated with gryphons, eagles, and seabirds, especially the albatross and they are frequently considered to be omens of his influence, especially if sighted during inclement weather.
Some organizations choosing to associate with Varunak will also use designs featuring his four wings or an eagle head with horns.
Domains and Powers
Words words. Not sure if I should use this or the quick little blurb at the beginning.
Relationships
Varunak is closely associated with Jellanile, the Ancient of Air, with some texts indicating that he is one of her consorts while others state that they were merely cohorts before his ascension to godhood.
Fuck Erefon, gonna sink that bitch's boat one day. Again.
Worship
Many of Varunak's worshippers are sailors praying for calm seas and steady wind for their sails or farmers praying for rain to water their crops. Coastal cities with turbulent shores usually also feature larger temples and more clergy dedicated to his worship. Most of his worshippers reside on Arda.
Clergy
Acolytes and Clerics working in Varunak's temples usually provide weather forecasting, and maintain the temple as a storm shelter. Many of Varunak's clerics are prone to traveling, especially at sea or in desolate areas.
Notable Temples
If he had any cool temples I'd write about them here.
Affiliated Orders
You know, if he had a dedicated order of paladins or something that would be neat. But I can imagine them constantly fighting each other with dope ass lightning duels.
Holy Days
Squawkmas.
Rites
Burial - The body is prepared so that it is laying straight with all limbs tightly at it's side, aside from the right arm which is bent at the elbow over the chest. The right hand is formed into a fist in the center of the chest with a small ferrous rod, such as a nail, held inside the hand. If the corpse is missing their right hand, the left may be used instead, and in the event that no hands are available a bird's claw is acquired and arranged to grip the ferrous rod as it is placed on the center of the chest in line with the body.
Once prepared, the body is set upon a high point out in the open, preferably during a storm. If there are no appropriate high points to rest the body, a bier is used. While not required, it is considered a sign of Varunak's favor and blessing if the body is struck by lightning. When this occurs, it is seen as a sign that Varunak has personally escorted the soul of the deceased to his realm, The Thundering Cliffs.
