Arda
The oldest continent, and the supposed heart of the civilized world, Arda is home to thirty four nations, most of which are located centrally. There are several cultures spanning the continent.
Some of the locations mentioned in this article are only here for me to remember and are not common knowledge. They'll end up being moved into other articles later.
The Wild Lands
Not all of the land in Arda is claimed, and there are some less hospitable and wild regions which are only populated by outlanders who either do not wish to live in the more civilized places, or who have been exiled or are otherwise in hiding and cannot return to civilization. The outlands are considered dangerous, either because of the treacherous terrain and weather, or the people who call those areas home.
The southern-most region is hot and humid, consisting of a mix of swampland and thick jungle. The southern reaches are populated by scattered villages, and due to the natural barriers of The Wilderfont and The Croaker's Spine, no kingdom has expressed interest in trying to tame or otherwise colonize those wilds.
Far to the north, just under the sprawling kingdom of Kamangara and stretching west, the frigid expanse is largely composed of desolate high dessert, the glacier covered mountains of The Northern Ice Fields, and coniferous forests that are cold, dense, and dark and rumored to be filled with monsters. While most of the outlanders who live in this region are nomads, there is the city of Karhunpes which serves as the safest haven in the glaciers.
South of the desserts of Zimeck lie even more desolate deserts leading to the foothills of a steep and towering mountain range coiled along the shore. The mountains themselves are considered cursed, and between the harsh rocky inclines and the dessert, along with the swampy coastline south and east of the mountain range, the area is sparsely populated save for nomads who scale the mountains and the foothills in search of rare gems and fossils. There is one permanent settlement, Nephivetra, on the south eastern side of the mountain range located on the shores of the Kirakiz River, where good stolen from caravans, ships, and other black market items are regularly traded.
The Bleak is a peninsula sandwiched between Edhelion to the north and Formarion to the south. It is a desolated area of badlands, pocked by scars of an ancient battle and filled with crags, rough terrain, and odd ruins. It boasts a single city, Dead Man's Rest.
On the coast along the western curve of Arda's central gulf is The Bone Marsh, known for being infested with undead. Its borders consist of marshy terrain with scattered stands of looming willow trees and deeper water. These stands grow increasingly dense and the interior of the region is gloomy swamp with dense tree coverage surrounding the fortress of Grimiron. The fortress is rumored to be home to the lich, Khoridaz.
The High Wastes lie in west central Arda, perched atop a mountain range. It serves as a barrier between the nations that surround it, and the only permanent structure in the region is Tamber's Place, an inn high in the mountains where the air is thin, set atop a cluster of hot springs.
Forming a barrier around the superstitions tribes that dwell in the Chovash Lands, The Grass Wall is a narrow sea of grass that the horsemen only venture into in order to cut down and burn any trees that encroach from the forests to the east and south. It has a holy site that the Chovashan revere in the north, west of the Lost Kingdom of Lerestir, called The Omen Spring.
