Religion in Gimahn

A page about the religions of Gimahn, including cults.

Deities

Deities are any sufficiently powerful creature (whether real or imagined) which is revered or worshipped by the mortal races. While the lands of Gimahn may be separated by vast oceans and distances, the true gods have generally found a foothold in every continent. Some of them may be known by different names or have different aspects of their teaching emphasized.

The Scoundrel, for example, is known by several names in several tongues. Some places revere and worship him in different ways, but the teachings and values he embodies tend to be similar across cultures.

In contrast, Kardathi the Vengeful's worship and teachings change drastically depending on where his temples may be found.

Some deities, such as Zura the Sleepless are not considered true gods, but are worshipped as such.

Deities generally fall within the following categories:

  • Gods - Who gain power from worship and may grant power to their worshippers, and also maintain their own extra planar residence.
  • Demigods - Who gain power from worship and may grant power to their worshippers at a diminished capacity. They do not maintain extra planar realms.1)
  • Ancients - Who are their own source of power and do not receive any benefit from worship, nor do they grant power to their worshippers, though they may provide boons to an individual who manages to acquire their favor. Ancients tend to have more focused portfolios of power. Some ancients maintain extra planar residences.

1)
A demigod who is talented in magic may use spells to create an extra planar space such as with demiplane, but this is not the same as a god's extra planar residence which is created purely out of their own divine energy.
